Weekend roundup

Love music, love to dance? This weekend Swat and Philadelphia boast a plethora of picks for things to do on your last weekend before Thanksgiving break. So take a break from those final paper drafts, advisor meetings, and cramming sessions to enjoy a little music and entertainment.

The Kimmel Center will be presenting the fall concert of PHIlDANCO, Philadelphia's modern dance company, featuring both back by popular demand and world premiere pieces. The company has received praise in the past for their "high energy" and as "[representing] the possibilities of the human spirit." Also in Philly, the Curtis Opera Theater will be performing Francesco Cavalli’s "L'Ormindo" this weekend, a romantic comedy about a North African queen who is the object of two princes' affections.

As Philadelphia prepares for the coming of the King Tut exhibit to Philadelphia in three months, Penn's museum of Archeology will be hosting the "Vagabond Acting Troupe." Vagabond will be performing an original play written about the Egyptian gods' reaction to the transformation of the Egyptian pantheon during the Amarna Period. What makes the performance so distinctive is that it is literally performed in the museum's Egyptian gallery.

But one need look no further than our own lovely campus for things to do. This weekend, Swat’s own will be performing in three musical events: the wind ensemble concert on Friday at 8:00 p.m., the jazz ensemble concert on Saturday at 8, and the student chamber recital on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Also this weekend, "Uncle Vanya" Anton Chekhov's play set in revolutionary Russia, will be performed on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
