Weekend Roundup

This weekend, support your friends by checking out the performances that are happening on campus. Possibly one of the most packed lineup in terms of artistic events, you have your pick of music, theater, even visual arts, all conveniently on Swat's own campus.

First off, this weekend is Drama Board's Night of Scenes including plays by Dan Hodson '09, Josh Cohen '09, Rebecca Goldman '07, and Shel Silverstein. The pieces are being directed by Melanie Spaulding '09. Rebecca Goldman '07, Dan Hodson '09, Jackie Avitabile '09, Tally Sharma '09, and Sean Nesselrode '09. The Night of Scenes will be this Friday and Saturday at 8 pm in Science Center 101.

For those unfamiliar with Night of Scenes, it's a chance for Swat students to get involved with Drama Board in every aspect of performance, from writing and directing, to design and acting. Before seeing the show, you might consider stopping by the Kitao, which is having an exhibition of photographs from the Sudan as part of Swat Sudan's events for this weekend, the gallery will be open today from 6 to 8.

For music you also have an assortment of options. Fetter Chamber Concert Performances will be on Friday and Sunday at 8 pm, made up of a mix to suit every taste: Philip Glass, Renaissance viol consort, Beethoven and original work by Swarthmore students. Swarthmore's Choral Concert will be Saturday at 8 pm, the program is Schoenberg's "Friede auf Erden" and Carissimi's "Jephte." Also in Lang this weekend, the Gamelan Semara Santi Concert at 3 pm on Sunday.

Finally, the ever-popular Rhythm and Motion Concert will be Friday and Saturday, at 8 and 5 pm respectively. The program includes (but is in no way limited to) hiphop, salsa, and African dance.
