What is Spirit and Earth?

Ask the Gazette: What is Spirit and Earth? Recently a handful of Swarthmore students have stumbled upon the website http://www.spiritandearth.org/. Until yesterday, the site held a legacy copy of Swarthmore College's old website.

According to Kelly Mueller of ITS, the site was "purchased by a professor who intends to build a site related to his research interests." The redirect was an accident because the domain was hosted before Swarthmore changed themes. A domain whois search revealed that the domain is owned by Professor Mark Wallace, the Chair of Swarthmore's religion department. Many of his earlier books, including "Fragments of the Spirit: Nature, Violence, and the Renewal of Creation" hint at a spirit-and-earth theme in the professors work.

When the site was brought to the attention of ITS, the redirect was replaced with a blank page.
