Weekend Roundup: why you only *think* you're screwed this weekend

Screwed over this weekend? Don't worry, the most awkward part is inevitably the bit where you look awkwardly at one another and wonder how you'll ever make conversation. Luckily for you, there's plenty going on that you can use in idle chit-chat when you find you've got nothing to say and have discussed "this crazy weather we're having" a couple dozen times.

Our picks for this weekend on campus? Tonight in Lang Concert Hall, Orchestra 2001's concert "Personal Passions" will be presented. The concert will feature the local premiere of Gyorgy Ligeti's 1993 Violin Concerto and world premiere of a song cycle by Luis Prado. Also in Lang Concert Hall this weekend will be the Stott Program's 9th Street Chamber Project, featuring alum Mackenzie Carlson '04. Also recommended is this evening's movie marathon running from 4:30 through midnight in Sci 101 and featuring a mix of foreign films, silver classics, and some of the most popular female comedians to grace the screen.

Off campus, consider that long awaited visit to the River Rink, which will close after this weekend, or consider trying out the plethora of options at Reading Terminal Market with their "Food Tour" on Saturday morning which promises to take you "behind the scenes" for $8.95 (alternately, you could just wander around the market and sample Amish goods, sushi, and crepes on your own.)

Finally, you can always fall back on going to the movies (both an excellent way to divert a game of misery poker and a great reason to get off campus this weekend.) Consider snagging a shuttle or riding into Market East and seeing "Babel," "Breaking and Entering," "Pan's Labyrinth," or "The Queen" at the Ritz at the Bourse (we highly recommend "Pan's Labyrinth.") Who knows, if all goes well you could take your date?
