Why are the lights in McCabe left on after hours?
McCabe is not the only place with the lights left on. If you walk around the campus at night, you'll notice that the lights are still on in many of the academic buildings. Relax, Earthlusters--there are good reasons for why this happens. Ralph Thayer, Director of Maintenance, informed the Gazette via e-mail that "Virtually all academic and administrative space is cleaned at night after the departure of staff and students." This late-night lighting enables Environmental Services staff to perform their jobs more easily and without disruption. The lights are turned off after the crew leaves. In addition, some lights on the perimeter of each floor of McCabe are left on over the weekend. Alison Masterpasqua, Supervisor of Access and Lending Services at McCabe, informs us that this is done for security reasons.
