Student Council Report

Student Council spent the bulk of the meeting planning their annual Movie Night. After your last day of classes on Friday, May 4th, you can look forward to watching "Alice in Wonderland" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" on Parrish Beach. This will be followed by the Through the Looking Glass Dance Party at 11:00 p.m. in Paces.

"Thanksgiving in the Spring" was also discussed. Council Vice-President Sam Asarnow said "Registrar Martin Warner and Provost Connie Hungerford will come up with a definite plan for the break over the summer, which will be discussed by Student Council, Curriculum Committee, and eventually the faculty next year."

Two other reforms which Council discussed include a possible reform of Parking Committee, which currently only has two students, and also possible student assessments for deans. Students who work closely with deans might have the opportunity to fill out forms about their interactions with deans to gather information about how they can improve. This fits with the college's recent commitment to greater self-scrutiny.

There should be a joint fireside chat with members of the College Budget and Planning Committees next Tuesday the 17th at 8:00 p.m. President Al Bloom and Treasurer Suzanne Welsh will likely be in attendance to answer student questions about college finances.

Council also planned elections. Look for more information in your inbox, but keep these dates in mind: platforms will be due on April 23rd, a Presidential discussion will be held on April 24th or 25th, online voting will start April 26th and Sharples voting will be held on April 30th and May 1st.
