Philly Shuttle to be Revived

The Philly Shuttle, Swarthmore’s program providing free transportation into Philadelphia, halted when its driver Bill Wilson retired last spring. Wilson had driven the shuttle since the program began in September 2002, as an alternative to SEPTA.

Public Safety, which coordinates shuttle operations, recently hired Drew Frescoln as the new driver after interviewing candidates last month.

Director of Public Safety Owen Redgrave said qualified candidates were expected to have experience in van driving and knowledge of Philadelphia and the particular routes used by the Philly Shuttle. “We had quite a few applicants and have high standards,” said Redgrave. Frescoln currently drives for U.S. Air and has a background in criminal justice and firefighting, which are valuable experiences for the position said Redgrave.

The program will tentatively begin on October 10th, although the official date will not be announced until Wednesday. According to Redgrave, the program’s routes and hours are unchanged. For more information about the shuttle, visit the website.

Does anyone know exactly where in Chinatown he picks up? Also, it would be great if he was given a phone that students could call in case they need to cancel their rides last minute.
