Bryn Mawr Names New President

According to a press release from Bryn Mawr, "by a unanimous vote, the Board of Trustees of Bryn Mawr College today appointed Jane Dammen McAuliffe, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgetown University and an internationally known scholar of Islamic studies, as its eighth president."

She is taking the reins of Bryn Mawr just after the completion of a $232 million fundraising campaign and as application and enrollment numbers "are at record highs," according to the press release.

McAuliffe was responsible for leading last year's major fund-raising campaign at Georgetown University, and championed major projects including the School of Foreign Service in Qatar. She has published a wide array of works including, most recently, the "Encyclopaedia of the Qur'an."

The Gazette will be carrying more information on this breaking announcement from The BiCo News as the weekend progresses.
